Johnny Sellyn has been actively involved in franchising for over 10 years.
In 1997, Johnny set up and became managing director of IFML. Company resources were initially invested in the development of franchise cd-roms.
Though these proved a success, a more effective and efficient way of delivering this information to a mass audience was needed. The answer was to provide the information on-line, which led to the development of whichfranchise.com. Launched in October 2000, whichfranchise.com is the only website affiliated to the British Franchise Association (BFA).

Johnny is the Deputy Chairman of the British Franchise Association (BFA) Franchise Group for Scotland. He also runs monthly franchise seminars in Scotland on behalf of Business Gateway as well facilitating the franchise seminars at the UK's largest Business Startup exhibition.
Pip Wilkins joined the bfa in 1999 and has had a varied number of roles within the Association. In her current role of Client Services Manager, she is responsible for membership recruitment and retention as well as a range of services delivered to members through meetings and events.
One of Pip's key responsibilities has been to drive forward the Franchise Group for Scotland on behalf of the Association.
Kevin is a partner and the head of franchising at French Duncan LLP, one of Scotland 's leading independent chartered accountancy firms. He looks after a diverse portfolio of clients within the franchising sector. Kevin has extensive experience in advising franchisees and franchisors over many years and regularly speaks at seminars for prospective franchisees and franchisors. He also acts for a wide range of mid corporate clients and advises on a variety of strategic and operational business issues.
Euan has been affiliated to the British Franchise Association (BFA) for 10 years, has been a judge at the BFA's Franchisee and Franchisor of the Year awards and is the only affiliated franchise consultant in Scotland. Euan has extensive experience in advising franchisors having acted for a number of franchisors in Scotland. He is very involved in the retail sector, advising major brands such as Nokia, Nike and Marks & Spencer on their franchising requirements.
AMO Consulting provides advise to franchisor businesses of all sizes on setting up their franchise system, guiding them through the development of their operations manuals and helping to recruit franchisees.
Richard Holden is Head of Franchising for Lloyds TSB. He has 23 years banking experience and has supported a wide range of businesses in the small business sector for many years. He is responsible for providing support to the Lloyds TSB Business Managers, assisting them in assessing proposals from prospective franchisees. He is also responsible for ensuring that the network of local business managers has up to date information on the franchise systems operating within the United Kingdom.
Suzie is International Development Director for Smart Cartridge, joining in 2002 to develop their existing operations into a series of planned and standardised procedures and systems which could be franchised to others. Her current role is to oversee the daily running of the Head Office in Scotland including the recruitment, management and development of the UK and International franchise operations. The company now has 62 franchises operating within 5 different countries and is one of few UK franchisors to have developed their operation on an international scale.
Ken Braddock is HSBC's Senior Franchise Manager and has occupied a number of roles within HSBC's Commercial Banking sector. He has responsibility for developing the bank's Franchise business within Scotland and is committed to continuing to support the growth HSBC has seen over recent years in franchising. An important aspect of Ken's role is to develop the bank's relationship with the franchisor and to ensure that it has a detailed understanding of their business model.
Ken comments ‘‘the growth in popularity of franchising has been significant in recent years and now accounts for over £12bn of sales turnover within the UK. As individuals take more control of their futures it is expected that the popularity of franchising will continue so we are confident in seeing an increase in opportunities.'
Ken regularly speaks at the whichfranchise.com seminars for franchisees and franchisors, held in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Suzie is a 1 st class Honour Graduate from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Her role prior to Smart Cartridge was Marketing Manager for a leading Scottish Food Supplies organisation where she established a new marketing department and developed a marketing strategy to take the company forward.
Suzie is a regular speaker at various franchise seminars throughout the UK and enjoys her role as an active member of the Scottish Franchise Group for Scotland and its sub committee.
David Kaye is a partner with Harper MacLeod specialising in Franchising and Business Law.
David Kaye has been in practice since 1979 and ran his own firm Clairmonts for 11 years. He joined Harper Macleod in February 2009.
David has extensive experience in advising franchisees and franchisors in Scotland, as well as international franchising.
David is an affiliate member of the British Franchise Association (bfa) and an active member of, and legal adviser to, the bfa Franchise Group for Scotland.
Charlie Morton is one of seven Franchise Development Managers that the Royal Bank of Scotland has put in place across the UK, providing specialist franchising advice and funding not only to individuals looking to purchase a franchise, but also to businesses looking to develop through franchising. Charlie's territory covers the whole of Scotland.
Charlie comments, "I'm not just there to provide finance and let people get on with it. I form strong working relationships with my clients – both at franchisor and franchisee level. I want them to do well, and they know they just have to call me at any time, whatever stage in the process they're at."
Scottish Enterprise are active in the Scottish Franchise industry, aiming to advise anyone thinking of becoming involved with a franchised business of the help and assistance that may be available in their area.
On leaving school, Robin Stenhouse worked for his father's coal merchant business for three years before joining the Royal Corps of Transport. Three years later, Robin founded his own successful road haulage business prior to selling it on and buying sandwich shop chain Baguette Express, his first joint business venture with his brother Billy, in 2003 – despite neither of them having any previous experience in convenience food.
The franchise proposition was launched three years later and, since then, the successful chain has quickly become one of Scotland's fastest growing franchises. 36 year old Robin has aspirations for Baguette Express to become the recognised market leader and the largest independent snack business in the UK within the next five years.
Dave Wilson is the Branch Manager of Snap-on Tools in Scotland with responsibility for the company's 56 Franchisees in Scotland and Ireland (Both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland) Dave started as a Franchisee with Snap-on covering the Blackburn area in Lancashire in March 1976 and worked as a Field Manager in Yorkshire for seven years prior to moving to Scotland in 1986. Dave is a regular participant in Which Franchise Seminars often speaking on Franchising from the Franchisors' viewpoint.
Dave enjoys being part of a winning team (Snap-on is Franchisor of the Year 2007), has been Branch Manager of the Year for the last five years in succession and is currently studying for a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Liverpool.
