“Creating Lasting Jobs and Businesses in Scotland”

The British Franchise Association's Franchise Group for Scotland (FGFS) represents the British Franchise Association (bfa) in Scotland. The FGFS was formed in March 2002 after the bfa recognised a real potential for franchising and the need to coordinate efforts to raise the profile of the sector in Scotland.

This year sees the fifth Scottish Franchise Week - a week in June devoted to increasing awareness of franchising in Scotland. The week, June 9th - June 15th, includes a business breakfast, franchise awareness seminars and the British Franchise Exhibition in Glasgow.

What's Happening in Scottish Franchise Week(SFW) 2008

Business Breakfast Franchising will take on a decidedly Scottish flavour this summer for the fourth Scottish Franchise Week (SFW), a week of events presented by the British Franchise Association's Franchise Group for Scotland (FGFS).

Throughout the week, 9th–14th June, a number of franchise events will be taking place in Scotland.

Sponsored by Lloyds TSB and Moreland Insurance, the aim of Scottish Franchise Week is to raise awareness of ethical franchising and the role which it plays in business start-up and job creation in Scotland.

One of the highlights of the week will be the Business Breakfast event on 13th June which will include presentations from a leading Scottish entrepreneur and successful Scottish franchisee..

The Dedication Needed to Franchise
Cariss Moir

Cariss and Graham Moir have been operating a myhome plc franchise in Stirling and West Lothian for just over three and half years.

We had always been in retail prior to franchising, with my husband Graham working as an Area Manager with JJB Sports covering central Scotland. I had worked for various retailers, from the sports sector to the woman's clothing and finished up at British Home Stores in Leith (Edinburgh), as the Store Manager.

We both felt the time was right to run our own business as we were working too many hours for other people… but we were too scared to “go it alone”. I figured it was a safer option choosing a recognised franchise brand like myhome.
